Khalid Parvez, an employee of Apple in India, has resigned from his position at the company’s Bengaluru outlet. Parvez stated that he decided to leave due to incidents of mental harassment, the use of abusive language, managerial mistakes, and Islamophobic comments.
His resignation followed the dismissal of his complaints, which he had filed against these issues.
In a LinkedIn post, Parvez expressed his appreciation for the growth opportunities he had at Apple.
However, he also voiced his criticism of the lack of compassion displayed by the company’s human resources department. Parvez mentioned that during their investigation, he was repeatedly asked to trust the system, which he found to be inadequate in addressing his concerns.
“But after 2 months of supposedly ‘thorough’ investigation the #employeerelations comes back with nothing but denial, insensitivity, counter accusations and ended up ridiculing my mental health and family issues,” he said in his post.
Parvez alleged that his mental health concerns were not taken seriously and were instead ridiculed.
He further accused the company of attempting to cover up the issues he raised rather than thoroughly investigating his complaints.
“When I asked about the Islamophobic comments – the ER said that none of my statements/incidents were substantiated by other employees. This is when I understood that there was never an investigation, this was some major corporate cover up,” he wrote on LinkedIn.
Parvez issued a warning to professionals, advising them not to blindly trust companies and their management.
He encouraged individuals to escalate their concerns beyond regional and national management levels, implying that local management may not always adequately address or resolve issues.
“The only reason why I am calling out these #hypocrites is to convey a message to my fellow #Apple Colleagues and all my fellow corporate victims. Please don’t be afraid to ask questions, please raise your voice whenever you see discrimination, misconduct, any kind of abuse or bullying – DON’T TRUST THE SYSTEM BLINDLY like I did (at least don’t trust the local system). Please escalate. Escalate beyond the regional/national teams. And please document each and everything,” he wrote in his post.
The resignation of Khalid Parvez follows closely on the heels of Apple CEO Tim Cook’s launch of Apple stores in India a few months ago.
Cook personally presided over the grand openings of the Apple stores in Mumbai and New Delhi in April of this year, marking a significant milestone for the company’s expansion in India.
