Following the recent Pahalgam attack, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other prominent leaders have urged the government to take decisive action against terrorism, while ensuring that innocent Kashmiris are not alienated in the process.
In a post on X, Omar Abdullah stressed that there must be a strong and decisive fight against terrorism, but he cautioned that innocent people should not suffer due to actions taken against militants. He emphasized that the support of the people of Kashmir, who have condemned the murder of innocent individuals, must be built upon, without causing alienation.
Former Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also called for caution, urging the Government of India to differentiate between terrorists and innocent civilians. “The Government of India must tread with caution and carefully distinguish between terrorists and civilians following the recent Pahalgam attack. It must not alienate innocent people, especially those opposing terror,” she said.
Mufti added that there have been reports of thousands being arrested, and several houses of common Kashmiris have been demolished, along with those of militants. She appealed to the government to ensure that innocent people do not bear the brunt of such actions, stressing that alienation only furthers the terrorists’ goals of division and fear.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Aga Ruhullah, expressed concern, stating, “Kashmir and Kashmiris are being given a collective punishment.
Speaking on one of the blasting of militant homes that took place following the Pahalgam attack, Nasir Lone, a media panelist from Jammu Kashmir National Conference, said, “Farooq Tedwa has been living in Pakistan for the past 3 decades after abandoning his family, leaving them to suffer alone. Destroying homes of families will not avenge the wrongs committed by militants. It only deepens the wounds, punish those who have already been left behind.”
