The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been bolstered with at least 40,000 bulletproof jackets, 170 armoured vehicles to use in counter-Militancy operations in the Kashmir valley and anti-Naxal ops in concerned states.

Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also confirmed that around 80 Maruti Gypsy vehicles have been re-fabricated and armour-plated in order to provide protection to CRPF troopers against bullets, grenades and stone-pelting in Kashmir.

A senior MHA official speaking to the Media said, “The CRPF has been sanctioned a total of 176 medium bulletproof vehicles and each of them can seat about 5-6 armed troops.”

The vehicles can withstand grenade attacks, gunshots aimed from a distance and other fatal attacks. They will be provided to the CRPF units deployed for counter-terrorist duties in the Kashmir valley and anti-Naxal operations in various Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected states.

The Central government has further sanctioned about 42,000 light bulletproof jackets for the paramilitary force as part of its modernisation plan.
