Day 21

It has been 21 Days, since 4-year-old Shakira went missing from her home in the Pathribal area of Batkot in Pahalgam of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The family of Shakira from the indigenous Gujjar and Bakerwal community had made their summer migration from Jammu to Kashmir, a few days back. “We were erecting our tents, when Shakira went missing and since then there has been no trace of her,” a local told The Kashmiriyat.

On June 4, the family was busy in unpacking their baggage to the place they have erected their tents at.“We were carrying the baggage from one place to the other, we gathered all the children at a place and asked them to wait, while the women and men were busy shifting the baggage from one place to the other,” the local said.

When the elders returned, the girl was absent and the other children accompanying her are to young to speak. The Locals suspect that Shakira has been abducted by someone.

Her father, Abdul Rashid Baji has reported the incident at Police Station Pahalgam who tweeted, “Matter wasn’t reported to the police. The child went missing on 5th June. Police came to know about it through video on 8th June & contacted the family. FIR was registered & multiple searches were conducted jointly with Wildlife Dept. Search is going on to trace her.

The police has registered an FIR vide number 33/2021 under section 363 in this regard at police station Pahalgam.

The neighbours of the family leave into the woods everyday at 6 in the morning and return at the dusk, however as of now they have been unable to find any clue of Shakira.

Since Shakira went missing, her parents have been in extreme shock and have not been able to even talk to anyone as multiple searches to trace their daughter have failed.

Appealing the Police to help them trace the 4-year-old Shakira, they said, “The family has been traumatized since she went missing, we ask the Police and DC Anantnag to intervene into the matter and help trace Shakira as soon as possible.”
