Diplomatic delegation from 18 countries to witness Kashmir elections

Senior diplomats from several countries, including the US, Norway, Singapore, and others, are visiting Kashmir today to observe the ongoing assembly elections.

The delegation consists of representatives from the Delhi-based missions of the US, Mexico, Guyana, South Korea, Somalia, Panama, Singapore, Nigeria, Spain, South Africa, Norway, Tanzania, Rwanda, Algeria, and the Philippines, according to sources familiar with the visit.

Most embassies are represented by their Charge d’Affaires or deputy chiefs of mission, while others are represented by political officers of various ranks.

Jammu and Kashmir’s assembly elections are being held in three phases. The first phase, covering 24 seats, took place on September 18.

The second phase is underway today for 26 seats, and the final phase, involving 40 seats, will be held on October 1. Vote counting is scheduled for October 8.
