Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed enthusiasm for his upcoming visit to Sonmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, where he will inaugurate the Z-Morh Tunnel on January 13.

The tunnel, which promises year-round connectivity to the picturesque region, is expected to significantly boost tourism and the local economy.

Responding to a post by J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said, “I am eagerly awaiting my visit to Sonmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, for the tunnel inauguration. You rightly point out the benefits for tourism and the local economy. Also, loved the aerial pictures and videos!”

CM Omar Abdullah, who had earlier visited Sonmarg to review the preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit, shared aerial photos and videos of the tunnel site on his X handle.

Accompanied by Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, and other officials from the police and civil administration, Abdullah expressed optimism about the tunnel’s transformative impact.

In his post, the Chief Minister said, “Visited Sonmarg today to review preparations for PM @narendramodi ji’s visit on Monday. The inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel will open Sonmarg to tourism all year round. Sonmarg will now be developed as a great ski resort. The local population will not have to leave in winter, and the travel time to Kargil/Leh from Srinagar will also reduce.”

The Z-Morh Tunnel is set to play a pivotal role in enhancing connectivity and accessibility in the region, marking a significant milestone for Jammu and Kashmir’s infrastructure development.
