‘Escaped from Cordon Several times’- Who was Top LeT Commander Saleem Parray?

A top commander of Lashkar e Taiba, Mohammed Saleem Parray of Hajin Bandipora was killed during a shootout in Srinagar’s Shalimar area on Monday afternoon, Police said.

They said that Saleem Parrey was a wanted militant and was involved in multiple militancy-related incidents.

Locals from the Shalimar area of Srinagar said that they heard a volley of shots that created panic in the area.

Saleem who was from Hajin Bandipora, Once known as a hub of counter-insurgents including Kukka Parray, went missing on 22 October 2017.

Saleem, (then 23)was among the first to join militants from the North Kashmir township after the town being a hub of counterinsurgents for several years.

Days after he joined Lashkar e Taiba, his photos were widely circulated on social media. Parray was against taking photographs, that is why he has not posted any photo carrying AK-47 in his hands till today.

In August last year, The Jammu Kashmir Police had released a list of the ten top most wanted Militants in the Kashmir valley on Monday evening and Saleem Parray was on the top of the list.

Known to have escaped from several cordons, he is believed to have escaped from an encounter on November 12, 2019.

Others who appeared in the list included Mohammed Yusuf Dar, a resident of Kawoosa Budgam is one of the oldest surviving Militants, popularly known as Yusuf Qantroo. He is categorized as an A++ Militant. He joined the Militant outfit Lashkar e Taiba in the year 2012.
