Fact check: Viral video of Kashmiri truck fire not new, unrelated to recent attacks

Amid heightened tensions following the Pahalgam attack, a video has gone viral on social media platforms, allegedly showing a Kashmiri truck set ablaze in Delhi.

Several users claimed the video depicted a fresh incident of violence targeting Kashmiris in the national capital.

In the video, a Sikh man can be heard stating that a Kashmiri truck is on fire and that no one has come forward to extinguish the flames, further fueling speculations of a targeted attack.

However, a fact-check conducted by The Kashmiriyat reveals that the video is not recent and bears no connection to the current spate of attacks against Kashmiris.

Upon verification, it was found that the video was shot at least two weeks ago at Azadpur Mandi in New Delhi. Contrary to the claims circulating online, the fire was accidental, reportedly caused by a gas stove malfunction inside the truck.

Members of the Truck Drivers’ Association also confirmed that the incident was reported to the union nearly two weeks ago. They clarified that it was an accident, not an act of violence.

Therefore, claims linking the video to the recent violence against Kashmiris are misleading.
