Family of Kashmir Research Scholar Dead on 6 January in Sudan Demands Official Intervention to Get his Body Home

The family of a research scholar in the Kulgam district of South Kashmir has sought official help in getting the dead body of their son from Sudan where he was pursuing his Ph.D.

Parvaiz Ahmed Mir, son of Ghulam Qadir Mir aged 35, who is a resident of the Yamrach area in Kulgam, as per the family, died on 6 January 2020 in Wad Madani city of Sudan, where he was doing his research.

The cause of the death of the 35-year-old research scholar is not known as of yet.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat the family of Parvez said that the family has been running to all officials to get back his dead body, however, the process is very slow and we have not been able to get his dead body back. “The family tried to approach the company where Parvez worked to send his body back, however, the company he was working with assured us full help only in case, if Parvez was not a covid positive,” the cousin said.

Saying that Parvez had moved to the Country, barely a year back, he said, we tried to verify the cause of his death from his roommate, however, nothing could be known as of yet.”

He said that the family ran from pillar to post to get his body back, however, they have not heard anything from the officials as of yet, “Only assurances” he said, adding “his covid reports are awaited and we do not know as of yet if he was a covid positive.”

The family members sought the intervention of the External Affairs Ministry and the Home Department to help get his body back so that he can be buried at home.
