Farooq Abdullah questions doublespeak of centre, police over Kashmir situation

The National Conference president and former chief minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah Saturday questioned the double speak of Central and Jammu Kashmir police over contrasting statements about situation in the region.

Addressing a press conference, he said while Centre has stated that the situation in J&K has improved, the police have acknowledged that militancy has reduced but not disappeared completely.

He also said that the Election Commission had previously stated that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir was favourable, and the Delimitation Commission has already completed its exercise.

“The voter list has been prepared, and any other inadequacies have also been addressed as per their assurance. If everything is in place and the government is fully prepared, I fail to understand why they are delaying holding of elections here,” he said.

He also expressed concern over removal of Mughal history from NCERT textbooks and wondered how government could forget about the impact of the Mughal dynasty.

“They might be able to erase the words from books, but they will never be able to erase the significance of Mughal emperors,” he said.

He also remarked that the Mughal dynasty had reigned over this land for eight centuries without causing any harm to either Hindus or Muslims.

He said that the government is only shooting itself in the foot by erasing the history of the Mughals from textbooks. (KNS)
