Father of three attacked with acid in Pulwama, here’s what we know so far

Mohammed Shafi had just shut down his shop around 6:30 P.M. on December 3, 2024, when he was attacked with acid by unknown persons in the Shadimarg area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir.

His brother informed The Kashmiriyat,“After closing down his shop, he went to the nearby shop in the Shadimarg area to buy chocolates for his children. A few moments later, we heard Shafi’s cries calling for help.”

He cried in pain, “Hatai Mojayy, Mae bachayiw” (O mother, save me).

When his brother rushed to help Shafi, he found that his entire clothes had been destroyed by the acid thrown at him. “People had sprinkled some water on his face. As soon as I reached the spot where he had been attacked with acid, i took hold of him and we rushed to the nearby Rajpora hospital in Pulwama,” his brother said.

The family also informed the local Police, who assured full action into the matter. “Meanwhile, Shafi was shifted to SKIMS Soura for immediate treatment,” said his brother.

According to his family members Shafi was attacked near a shop. “As soon as he saw someone approach him with acid, he turned his face backwards and the acid hit the back of his head. Even his clothes have fully been damaged with this acid,” they said.

Survived by three children including a son, Shafi is currently hospitalised. “We don’t know the motive of the crime nor do we have a dispute with anyone. We want a through investigation into the matter. We don’t want suc crimes to go unpunished or repeated in the future,” his sister told The Kashmiriyat.
