Muslim School Teacher From Rajasthan Suspended For Celebrating Pak’s Victory Sent To Jail, Released On Bail

After Pakistan’s victory against India in the much anticipated India Vs. Pakistan T-20 Cricket match, a school teacher from the western Indian state of Rajasthan was terminated from her job after she celebrated Pakistan’s victory on Sunday.

Reportedly, Nafisa Atari, a school teacher in Rajasthan’s Udaipur was suspended after her WhatsApp status, celebrating Pakistan’s triumph over India in the ICC T20 world cup on Sunday, went viral on social media.

Nafeesa Attari was a teacher at privately run Neerja Modi School. She had put up a picture of Pakistani cricketers from the match, with the caption “Jeeeet gayeeee… We wonnn,” on her WhatsApp status.

As soon as the screenshot went viral, the school management expelled Nafisa from the job. After Nafisa was terminated from her post, she issued a video message where she apologised and claimed her post was taken “out of context,” ANI reported.

She said during the match, her family was divided into two teams, and each team supported one side. As her team was supporting Pakistan, she posted the status on the messaging app WhatsApp.

She said, “One of the parents who were on my contact list asked if I support Pakistan. I said yes. I thought it was a joke as there was an emoji at the end of the message.” Nafisa further claimed she was a patriot and could not ever support Pakistan.

It was reported that Nafisa has also been booked by Rajasthan police, even though she tendered apology and was sent to jail after being arrested. She was arrested hours after an FIR was registered against Nafeesa at the Amba Mata police station.

“An FIR under section 153 B of the IPC (Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national-integration) at Amba Mata police station in Udaipur,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Udaipur told ANI.

However, she was later granted bail on a personal bond of Rs. 20,000. Meanwhile, three Kashmiri students in Agra were suspended and booked by police after they allegedly celebrated Pakistan victory. Two medical students in Srinagar were also booked under UAPA for similar charges. Meanwhile, in Samba district of Jammu Kashmir, nearly six were booked.
