Hours after his sister drowned to death saving him, a 21-year-old youth from Bandipora has lost his battle for survival at a hospital in Srinagar.

The tragedy unfolded in Bandipora’s Sumbal area on Sunday when 21-year-old Nazakat Ali drowned in Jhelum river.

Locals told The Kashmiriyat that as soon as the news of Nazakat’s drowning spread, his sister rushed to the water body and jumped inside the river to save her brother, however, she too drowned.

Within few moments, teams of Jammu Kashmir police and SDRF reached the spot to rescue the duo.

After intense searches, the dead body of the sister (Nuzhat Afzal (18), was rescued from the river and her brother was rescued alive and referred to the hospital for treatment.

In the wee hours of Monday, Nazakat lost the battle for survival and breathed his last at the hospital.
