Baramulla police have registered an FIR against members of Jammu Kashmir Itihad-ul-Muslimeen (JKIM) for “continuing unlawful activities” despite a government-imposed ban, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.
The organization, affiliated with Masroor Abbas Ansari, was declared “unlawful” by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) through a notification issued on March 11, 2025.
Police said that JKIM members have been “linked to militancy-related incidents, stone-pelting on security forces, and inciting public unrest.”
The statement further alleged that “despite the ban, credible intelligence suggests that some leaders and members of the group continue to engage in anti-national activities.”
They are accused of “instigating the public, spreading misinformation, and fueling unrest.”
Taking cognizance of these alleged violations, Police Station Pattan has registered FIR No. 45/2025 under Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Sections 147 and 148 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Officials said that “further investigation into the case is underway.”
Baramulla police reiterated their “commitment to maintaining law and order” and urged the public to “cooperate in ensuring peace” by reporting any activities that could “threaten stability and national security.”
