FIR registered over ‘unlawful activites’ during Muharram procession in Srinagar

Srinagar Police has initiated legal action against individuals involved in violations during the 8th Muharram procession held on MA Road, citing deliberate breaches of agreed-upon conditions and acts intended to provoke unrest.

In an official statement issued on Friday, a police spokesperson said, “Despite clear guidelines, certain participants engaged in deliberate and unlawful acts during the procession. These actions were aimed at disrupting public order and communal harmony, thereby posing a serious threat to the security and integrity of the nation.”

Following the incident, FIR No. 41/2025 has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Kothibagh.

The individuals involved have been identified and legal proceedings are currently underway, Police said.

Police reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding peace and stability in the region and stated that it will continue to take strict action against any attempts to incite disorder or disturb communal harmony.
