According to a report, the commission has proposed to increase the number of seats from 83 to 90. Kashmiri scheduled tribes will be given special reservations in the assembly.
The delimitation panel has also sought reservations for Kashmiri Pandits who have been demanding a floating constituency seat on the Sikkim pattern
The commission headed by a former supreme court judge is also responsible for reserving a designated number of seats in a state assembly or the Lok Sabha for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.
After the abrogation of Article, 370, the Modi-led Government in March 2020 constituted the Delimitation Commission to redraw boundaries of assembly or Lok Sabha constituencies in Jammu Kashmir.
The commission is being headed by Justice (retired) Ranjana Desai. It was given an extension of one year in March this year.
Members of Parliament of the Jammu Kashmir National Conference (NC) are likely to attend the next meeting of the Delimitation Commission scheduled on December 20.
