Family sources speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that on Sunday morning, the police of Seraikela-Kharsanwa in Jharkhand reached the house of the independent journalists when the family was sleeping and started a massive search inside his house.

Pertinently the Jharkhand based independent journalist Rupesh Kumar Singh was one of the many Indians who were allegedly spied on by Pegasus software. He was also booked under UAPA in 2019

According to Singh’s partner, Ipsa Shatakshi, several police personnel came knocking at their doors, early this Sunday morning at 5:30 am, with a search warrant. Interestingly, this warrant was never really produced in front of Rupesh or his family before the police started the raid.

When Ipsa requested the officials to give the family time to wake up and get ready before the search could begin, the family was assured that it won’t take more than half an hour for the proceedings to conclude. “However, it was not until 2 PM that the investigation came to an end,” she said.

Rupesh has been taken into police custody as of now, which stands to be in clear violation of the Supreme Court’s directions. Experts say that in any case, police should first inquire and inform the person concerned before making an arrest, which in this case, has reportedly not happened.

The family has not been informed of the reason behind Rupesh’s arrest.

Recently, the journalist from Jharkhand reported, ‘Ground report: Millions of lives suffocating between smoke and ashes’. In the story, Rupesh reported how factories in the area had led to health disasters.
