Fomer chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti accept ‘defeat’

The former chief ministers of Jammu Kashmir, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have accepted defeat on their respective seats in Baramulla and Anantnag-Rajouri respectively.

“I think it’s time to accept the inevitable. Congratulations to Engineer Rashid for his victory in North Kashmir,” wrote Omar in a post on ‘X’.

“I don’t believe his victory will hasten his release from prison nor will the people of North Kashmir get the representation they have a right to but the voters have spoken and in a democracy that’s all that matters,” the post reads further.

As per latest data available on ECI website, Er. Rashid has amassed 291610 – a lead of 134705 against Omar Abdullah’s 156905.

Peoples’ Conference Sajad Gani Lone has so far garnered 98603 votes and PDP’s Mir Fayaz 16549.

Meanwhile, INDIA alliance candidate Mian Altaf has secured a total of 236730 votes with a margin of over 2 lakh votes over former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.

“Respecting the verdict of the people I thank my PDP workers & leaders for their hard work & support despite all the odds. My deepest gratitude to the people who voted for me. Winning & losing is part of the game & wont deter us from our path. Congratulations to Mian sahab for his victory,” Mehbooba Mufti write on X .
