For ‘better urban planning’, Admin launches demolition drive in Kulgam

The Municipal Council of Kulgam said that it initiated a demolition drive in the main town of Kulgam on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Kulgam administration said, “The operation, launched under the directives of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Amir Athar Khan, seeks to remove illegal encroachments and return the land to its rightful use.”

The drive was led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Council Kulgam, Zahid Sajad, and focused on removing illegal structures that had been occupying public land for personal gain, as per the statement.

“The effort aims to restore the town’s infrastructure and public spaces for the benefit of all residents,” the officials said.

As per the statement, the “demolition drive” is part of a broader initiative by the local administration to ensure “better urban planning and curb the growing issue of unlawful land occupation.”

The officials said that ten kanal of land were retrieved.
