Former NC MLA Abdul Majid Mir Joins PDP

Abdul Majid Mir, a stalwart politician from Achabal and the former National Conference MLA, who contested the last assembly election independently, has joined People’s Democratic Party on Monday.

In a press release, the PDP said that Welcoming the former MLA Abdul Majid Mir into her party, Mehbooba Mufti termed it a daring decision given the situation when joining PDP is like touching a high voltage live power line.”

The former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that the PDP was hopeful that the Home Minister’s visit to Kashmir will improve the situation, but it did not.

Abdul Majid Mir was welcomed into the party fold by the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and Party General Secretaries Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura and Dr. Mehboob Beg.

The PDP president hoped that Mir’s joining would provide a major fillip in strengthening the party at the grassroots.

Mir joined politics in 1995 after he was allegedly kidnapped to kill by suspected Militants at his residence in Achabal. He was the president of the Auqaf committee back then. A year later, Mir won the Shangus constituency in 1996 on NC mandate.
