Girl elopes with Muslim boy after Pragya Thakur shows her ‘The Kerala Story’

A nursing student, aged 19, from Bhopal, made headlines when she eloped with her lover, Yusuf, just days before her scheduled marriage, India Today reported.

Notably, the girl had received advice from Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bhopal, to distance herself from Yusuf. Adding to the controversy, Pragya Singh Thakur had accompanied the girl to watch the movie “The Kerala Story.”

“The Kerala Story” depicts the journey of a Hindu woman from Kerala, portrayed by Adah Sharma, who is influenced to convert to Islam and is subsequently sent to Syria. In Syria, she is coerced into joining a terrorist organization known as IS. The film had been embroiled in controversy since the release of its teaser last year.

The family of the 19-year-old girl, residing in Bhopal’s Naya Basera area as per a report by India Today claimed that Yusuf is their neighbor. They reported that the girl eloped with him, taking along the cash and jewelry intended for her wedding scheduled on May 30.

In their complaint filed at Kamla Nagar police station in Bhopal, the family alleged that Yusuf had ensnared their daughter with persuasive words and then eloped with her. Moreover, they accused Yusuf of obtaining a bank loan in the girl’s name and forcing her to bear the burden of its monthly instalments.

However, contradicting the family’s claims, the girl, in her statement to the police, confessed that she had willingly eloped with Yusuf. It is important to note that Yusuf has a criminal record, being involved in more than six criminal cases
