‘Yogi Government Made False Promises when Our Son Was Killed’-Alleges Family of Army Man Killed in Kashmir

Major Ketan Sharma was killed last year in June during an encounter with militants in Anantnag.

The family of Major Ketan Sharma has alleged that the Government of Uttar Pradesh led by Yogi Adityanath made false promises to the family after Ketan was killed, “But the Government has kept none of their promises,” the family alleged.

His family in an interview has said, “In UP there have been 12 army men who were killed, upon who’s names ‘margs’ are to be constructed but Major Ketan Sharma is not one of them… Why is that?”.

The different declarations to the family that were made by the government after he died were that 25 lac rupees were to be given, which was received.

The other promise was that a family member, in this case, the wife, would get a job. Though she did get a job, it is a clerical job and she is not satisfied with it because she is a Class One officer and has many qualifications. She wishes to get a position that suits her qualifications. But this demand so far has been overlooked.

While showing the various newspaper cuttings of different promises and declarations made by political leaders, the martyr’s uncle says that politicians like Sunita Verma from BSP had also declared that a Mmarg and road would be renamed after Major Ketan Sharma but it still hasn’t been done.

“This is his father and I’m his ‘bade papa’. Our son Major Ketan Sharma was killed on 17th June 2019 in Anantnag in an encounter with terrorists. During that time, the entire country shared our grief and was present with us. Everyone was crying and the government was supporting us. Everybody was here and it was declared that to remember the sacrifice the park in front of our house would be maintained” the family member said.

Yogi Adityanath, UP CM had also declared that the road of the locality would be renamed after Major Ketan Sharma’s name.” he added.

The representatives of the soldier’s society and also his family members kept meeting leaders and reminded them of the pending work. There were repeated reminders and letters sent but not even one single declaration or promise till date has been fulfilled.

“Through the medium of the press and media, we want that our opinions and requests are brought up in front of the government again so that the due work is completed.” Said the Uncle.

“We want the youth of the country to know who Major Ketan Sharma was and that his sacrifice makes them more aware of the country” the uncle finally said.
