A government school building is in shambles for a long due to official apathy from the School Education Department.

The building of the government middle school Budden Rafiabad in education zone Baramulla is in shambles for the past few years and despite several representations to the concerned Department by the locals, the Administration has paid no heed to the demands of the public.

“The construction of the new building started in the year 2011 but we are still waiting for the completion of the building. This new building comprising four classrooms was taken up to lintel level but the roof was not laid and since then it is standing incomplete and has turned inoperable,” a Mehraj u Din, a resident told The Kashmiriyat.

He said that even though the walls of the old building are collapsing now one by one, which has endangered the lives of dozens of students. “Looking at the condition of the school, it seems that there is a cattle shed here, not a school. The Education Department and the Local Administration are acting as mute spectators,” said resident Mehraj u din.

“Everyone is not born with a silver spoon, else I would have admitted my two sisters to any other private school. The old building that is having visible cracks on the walls and is totally in a hazardous condition. It is not less than pushing our students into death well in the name of sending them to school.” another irked resident Shahid lone added.

One of the teachers told The Kashmiriyat that they have written to the District administration and the Education department officials several times about the condition of the school but to no avail.

“The roll of the school is decreasing gradually as people do not want to send their children to unsafe schools. It’s clear from the condition of the school that the future and the life of the students are at stake,” the residents said appealing the LG Administration to intervene in the issue and save the lives as well as the future of students.
