The Government Higher Secondary school Munad Guffan in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district lacks basic facilities and an approach road.
Saniya Shahmeem, a class 10th student told The Kashmiriyat that she while walks through muddy school premises every day to reach the classroom. “It is not less than a nightmare to walk through the muddy ground” she exclaims.
“Most of the time the students do not even wear uniform because it gets muddied while walking through the mud-splattered pathways. When it rains we prefer to stay at home as the narrow passage which reaches our classes gets filled with mud and rainwater,” she says,
With more than 150 students on rolls, the school does not have the basic facilities like drinking water, electricity, washrooms for girls, infrastructure, and fencing.
“The students are being taught using damaged chairs & blackboards as well,” said a student Aaina Jan.
She said that even though new school building has been constructed in the school premises seven years ago, but it is yet to be made functional.
A teacher posted at the school said that new school building was constructed seven years ago but the building has not been handed over to the school as of yet.
Meanwhile, students and locals while talking to The Kashmiriyat appealed the higher authorities to look into the matter as early as possible.
Chief Education Officer Kulgam, Mushtaq Ahmad Qadri said he has recently joined as CEO and he was not aware of all the issues being faced by the students of Higher Secondary School Munad Guffan.
“I will collect all the information and try to address those issues immediately,” he said.
