Gufrana Hussain: A 22-Year-Old Sci-fi Writer Who Pens Down her First Book in 3 Months

Gufrana Hussain, a 22 year old girl, who is pursuing MBBS, wrote a book ISOTOPE in three months.

Talking with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Gufrana said that she wrote poems for her school magazine and participated in poem recitations too.

“In my middle school when I finally won prizes for writing and my friends enjoyed my work, I started writing a page and did pretty well,” Gufrana said.

Gufrana said writing eventually began a very spiritual journey for her in high school. “I became the editor of my school magazine at 17,” she said.

Gufrana writes short stories and poems.

“The pandemic had started right when my schooling was over, so I barely met anyone. It was becoming a hard time for me, to adapt to the whole lockdown situation, so I thought this was the right time for me to publish my work. So, I began writing my book,” Gufrana said.

Gufrana said she was interested in reading science fiction as one can create its own world by reading such books.

“I’ve written quite a few short stories including, murder mystery, thriller and science,” she said.

“My mother was too interested in studying and reading but when agitation started in Kashmir she left her dream incomplete, so my mother is my inspiration,” she said.

Isotope is a sci-fi novel based on a 20 year old girl, Ava Williams who was an electrical engineer at Acromatt United. An accident at work resulted in her being sent to an alternate dimension where she tries to find her way back to earth.

She meets a few friends from earth along the way and together they discover a way to go back home, when Ava realizes that the mannerisms of people towards her had changed and the society was hostile. This results in her going back to the isotope and finding ways to survive in that alternate reality

“To be honest, I’ve wild imaginations that can literally create multiple worlds in my head. Just the fact that I can put out my wild thoughts in the form of a story makes it crazy. The fact that I’m able to make my readers experience the thought process in my head is simply amazing,” Gufarana said.

“American Gods, The Time Traveller’s Wife, Maze Runner are some of my favourite sci-fi books, I’m not a fan of the authors of this genre but yes Khaled Hosseini is the author I love even though he is a completely different genre writer I adore his books,” she said—(KNO)
