In the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the launch of ‘Operation Sindoor’, the Haj Committee of India has announced the suspension of all Haj flights from Srinagar Airport until May 9, 2025.
The decision, detailed in a circular issued by the committee on Tuesday, follows a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) regarding the temporary closure of the airport due to security concerns.
The suspension has left hundreds of Haj pilgrims from Jammu Kashmir stranded, awaiting clarity on their revised travel arrangements.
According to the circular, alternate plans for the pilgrims’ air travel are currently under review and are being coordinated with multiple stakeholders.
An official notice, of which a copy is available with The Kashmiriyat, stated that the committee is “fully committed to ensuring the successful pilgrimage of all Haj pilgrims” and urged travelers to stay in touch with the Jammu Kashmir State Haj Committee for timely updates.
This development comes just hours after Pakistan launched heavy shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border in response to India’s military strikes on terror camps in Pakistan, killing 15 civilians and injuring 43.
The advisory urges the J-K Haj Committee to disseminate the information promptly and keep the affected pilgrims informed of further developments.
