Ulfat Bashir

Heaps of garbage, mainly plastic waste, were dumped alongside Srinagar-Sopore road on old Chankhan-Sopore bridge area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and were not removed for many weeks now.

The residents said that in the absence of bins, residents dump the waste on roads as dogs and cattle squatter upon the waste and also consume it.

A local resident said that in the absence of proper waste processing, the strong stench emanating from these big heaps has made nearby residents and commuters life miserable.

Adil ahmad, a local resident said that the concerned authorities have failed to lift the garbage from the road, The garbage heaps are the main breeding grounds for eagles and dogs , which are a threat to the health of residents as heaps of garbage are lying scattered along the national highway.

Meanwhile the local residents appealed to authorities for effective removal of the garbage and urged authorities to take immediate action against the people who dump the garbage on road sides .
