Heightened Security, Deserted Streets and a Snapped Internet- 72nd Republic Day Being Observed in Kashmir Valley

Amid tight restrictions and snapped internet services, the 72nd republic day of India is being observed across the Kashmir valley on Tuesday.

Major republic day parades are being held at all the district headquarters, the largest event which will be addressed by the Lieutenant Governor f Jammu Kashmir, Manoj Sinha is being organized at the Bakshi Stadium of Srinagar.

Hundreds of Government employees and students will participate in the celebration events.

Restrictions have been placed in Srinagar and across the major townships of the Kashmir valley on Tuesday morning, patrols, security forces manning the streets, armoured vehicles patrolling the roads are being seen across the Kashmir valley.

A top security official said that restrictions were imposed in view of the law and order situation in the Kashmir valley. “We are ensuring that people’s lives are saved as Militants might conduct attacks on the republic day,” officials say.

Shops and business establishments are shut in most parts of the region, as a part of the traditional shutdown on the day.

Meanwhile, reduced Mobile internet services have been snapped across the Kashmir valley for the last more than 11 hours now.

For the last 542 days, internet speed has been either reduced or snapped in most parts of Jammu Kashmir, Mobile internet was snapped in Jammu Kashmir on 05 August 2019 when the Indian Government abrogated the special status.
