Hezbollah: All-out War with Israel Unlikely in Coming Months

On Sunday, Lebanon’s Hezbollah leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, stated the unlikeliness of an escalation of violence between Iran-backed movement and Israel in Damascus, Syria, in spite of increased clashes in the last week.

“The atmosphere does not indicate a war … It’s unlikely, the atmosphere of war in the next few months,” said, Sheikh Naim Qassem, the second-in-command of Hezbollah, in an interview with pro-Assad television station al Mayadeen.

“There is no change of rules of engagement and the deterrent equation with Israel exists and we are not planning to change it,” Qassem added.

Qassem’s “rules of engagement and the deterrent equation with Israel” refer to the rules agreed to after the 2006 one month war between the Iran-backed movement and Israel.

Tensions between Israel and Lebanon rose after Lebanon’s Hezbollah militia reported the killing of a fighter last week in an alleged Israeli strike on the edge of the capital, Damascus, in Jabal al Mane.

Since August 2019, when two Hezbollah members were killed in Damascus, Israel has increased its strikes on Sriya mainly against areas with a strong presence of Iranian-backed militias.

Western intelligence sources state Israel’s actions as a shadow war approved by the United States.
