Human trafficking exposed: JK Police arrest kingpin in Rohingya case

Jammu Kashmir Police in Bandipora have arrested the kingpin of the racket for facilitating illegal trafficking of Rohingya in the district, SSP Bandipora said on Tuesday.

Addressing a presser SSP Lakshay Vinod Sharma, as per local news agency Kashmir Scroll, said that, “On 23rd November information was received by PS Hajin from reliable sources regarding illegal trafficking of Rohingya women and subsequently selling them to various people in the area in lieu for money by marrying them.”

“Upon ascertaining the actuality, we came to conclusion that this was a criminality on two counts, first is the illegal infiltration of Rohingya women from Bangladeshi refugee camps into India and second their sale as brides that is human trafficking”, the police officer said.

“We accordingly lodged an FIR in the said case and got a total of five persons arrested”, he said adding, “One Rohingya namely Manzoor Alam son of Mohammad Ilyas among the arrested persons turned out to be the kingpin of the entire racket.”

“Two Rohingya women were found to be married and necessary action as per law has been taken and further investigations are underway”, the officer said further. (KS)
