“If You Allow Wine Sale, Why Not Friday Prayers”- Clashes Erupt in Kashmir’s Pulwama

Scores of people on Friday protesting the “double standards” of Government gathered in the Ruhmoo area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, chanting Anti- BJP and Pro Freedom slogans.

Speaking here, a protester said that, “it is unfortunate that on one side the Government is allowing wine sales in India and disallowing us to perform our religious obligations.”

They further said that the wine sellers and those purchasing it do not follow social distancing. “We had promised authorities that we will maintain social distancing as recommended by the health officials, but despite those assurances, we were disallowed to offer Friday prayers.”

As soon as the protesters tried to march ahead, the police swung into action and fired tear smoke shells to disperse these people who were trying to march ahead.
