A government-run middle school in Sonawari area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora has been functioning out of four rooms causing immense hardships to students.
Locals told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that teaching eight classes in four rooms is very difficult and can prove problematic sometimes as in the noisy conditions it is impossible for students to grasp any lessons clearly.
Habibullah Akhoon, a local said that the school is facing space crunch and said that the government had started the construction of another additional building for the school in 2010 but that has not yet been completed.
“We do not understand why the administration has abandoned the work of the building in the halfway while the students here have to suffer a lot in the absence of proper space,” he said.
Iqra, a student said that due to lack of space they are facing many difficulties here and are not able to study properly. “Students from two separate classes study in the same room due to which the students of both the classes have to face problems,” she said.
Even several parents are worried and complain that their children will not achieve anything in life if they continue to study in such squalid conditions. “The administration does not think about the future of our children. If there is a shortage of space in the school, they should speed up the construction of another building,” Mohammad Abdullah, a parent said.
The students as well as locals appealed to higher authorities to provide them additional space and mitigate their sufferings.
