In Jammu, College students recite Hanuman Chalisa to stop Adhan on loudspeakers

A few students of Government Gandhi Memorial College on Friday recited Hanuman Chalisa in protest against the use of loudspeakers by a local mosque in Jammu, officials said.

However, police later stopped them from reciting Hanuman Chalisa and detained half-a-dozen students, though they were later let free.

The students alleged that they were studying in classrooms, and there was the use of loudspeakers by a local mosque which created “noise pollution” and triggered the student who later staged protests stating that there was a “disturbance” to their studies at the GGM College.

The students also alleged that the failure of authorities to stop the usage of Loudspeakers which forced them (students) to chanting of ‘Hanuman Chalisa’.

The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Tuesday had passed a resolution for the removal of loudspeakers and public address systems operating without permission from religious and public places. Inputs from PTI
