In municipality dumpers and cars, EVM thefts reported in UP ahead of counting day

From Municipality dumper vehicles to thrash bins, the electronic voting machines are being found moved inside several vehicles to unknown places ahead of the counting day in Uttar Pradesh.

The counting of the votes for the seven phased elections in Uttar Pradesh will begin tomorrow amid the exit polls giving an edge to the ruling party- BJP.

The Election Commission on Wednesday (March 9) removed three officials from poll duty after electronic voting machines were being shifted in an unauthorized manner.

The suspended officials included a nodal officer for EVMs in Varanasi, a returning officer (RO) in Sonbhadra district and an additional election officer in Bareilly district.

Samajwadi Party alleged that the BJP is using the administration to twist the elections in their favour. In the first of its kind incident, the Samajwadi Party workers, in huge numbers are camping on the streets of several cities to prevent “electoral frauds” and “EVM thefts.”
