Following a spate of attacks and harassment targeting Kashmiri students in several Indian states after the Pahalgam incident, citizens from across the country have stepped forward to extend solidarity and support.
Numerous videos circulating on social media show Kashmiri students visibly shaken, fearing for their safety in cities far from home.
The rising tension has prompted calls for urgent intervention. “Requesting @CM_JnK @OmarAbdullah sb to immediately intervene and speak to his counterparts across the country,” said Imran Nabi Dar, spokesperson of the Jammu Kashmir National Conference.
In a heartening response, individuals from different corners of India have offered safe spaces and assistance. “If any Kashmiri woman needs a place in Chandigarh, my house is a safe space,” said Kanupriya, a resident of Punjab, speaking to The Kashmiriyat.
From Bengaluru, Pravan, a resident of the HSR Layout area, shared that he and a group of volunteers are actively working to support Kashmiris in distress across the city. “If any citizen from Kashmir is facing harassment, they can reach out. We have a network ready to help,” he informed The Kashmiriyat.
As fear spreads among Kashmiri students in the aftermath of targeted violence and threats, these voices of solidarity offer a glimmer of reassurance amid uncertainty.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Saddam Mujeeb, a human rights defender and lawyer, expressed deep concern over the growing hostility.
“This targeting of innocent students based on their regional and religious identity is deeply concerning and a violation of their fundamental rights,” he wrote on social media.
Mujeeb has filed a complaint petition with the National Commission for Minorities (NCM), urging immediate intervention and protection for Kashmiri students.
“We must not allow hatred and collective punishment to replace justice and empathy,” he added.
