‘Instead of addressing issues, those in power furthering agenda of disempowering people’ – Hurriyat Conference’s statement on PDD Strike

On Monday, the Hurriyat Conference released a statement on the PDD Strike in Jammu and Kashmir,
“expressing serious concern at the J&K authorities decision to privatise assets of the Power Department J&K” and merging them “with the Power Grid Corporation of India.”

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference, in the statement, said that at no other place in India had such kind of a merger taken place as the authorities were doing in Jammu Kashmir.

“It becomes obvious that the policy of seizure of natural resources of J&K by the Government of India continues,” the statement read, further.

It also said that such decisions lead “to justified moral outrage among the people for their indigenous resources that continue to be under threat of being stolen.”

APHC also supported the demands of the thousands of employees of the Power Development Department (now Corporation) of Jammu and Kashmir.

It reiterated “its stance on the continued theft of Kashmir’s indigenous resources that are being bartered away in the most devious designs,” in the statement.

It becomes important to mention that Kashmir’s power resources have been stolen away from the people in the past by Indian corporations, the statement added.

The Hurriyat said that “such designs and loot of the indigenous resources,” as a result, had led to grave issues of electricity cuts even after seven decades, which were borne by Kashmir in Winters and people in Jammu in the summers.

It also said that instead of addressing these issues, those in power were furthering their agenda of disempowering the people of Jammu Kashmir and usurping their indigenous resources.

The APHC demanded that the authorities desist from such policies and return the power resources of Jammu Kashmir to its people.

It also appealed to the authorities to accept the demand of the striking PDD employees.
