In the strategic Strait of Hormuz, missiles were launched at the mock-up of a US aircraft carrier by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard paramilitary. The drill gave rise to a humongous fire which caused the US military to temporarily put two regional bases on alert.

Condemning Iran’s actions, the US navy called the move “irresponsible and reckless behavior”, and an aim “to intimidate and coerce.”

This drill, named “Prophet Mohammad 14th”, was telecasted on the Iranian state televisions, showcasing boats encircling the mock-up of a US aircraft and carrying out the strategic operation by launching missiles from a variety of angles at the carrier.

Major General Hosseini Salami, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards commander, told the state television: “What was shown today in the exercises at the state level of aerospace and naval forces, was all offensive.”

This drill took place in the Gulf water region where 20 percent of all oil transportation occurs, lingering a threat to military conflict between Iran and the US after last summer’s series of incidents targeting various oil tankers.

The US military said that American troops in the UAE and Qatar were put on alert after a major missile fire detection.

“The US navy conducts defensive exercises with our partners promoting maritime security in support of freedom of navigation, whereas Iran conducts offensive exercises, attempting to intimidate and coerce,” said Commander Rebecca Rebarich, spokeswoman for US Navy Bahrain-based Fifth Fleet.

Tensions amid Iran and the US have increased since US President Donald Trump imposed sanctions against Iran’s nuclear program in 2018, which aimed to stop Iran’s oil exports.
