Recently Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University has again made it to national headlines recently, but this time it is not due to the unrest in the campus and student-led protests. The university has been ranked as the best university among all the central universities by the Ministry of Education with a 90%score, followed by Rajiv Gandhi University of Arunachal Pradesh (83%), Jawaharlal Nehru University (82%) and Aligarh Muslim University (78%).
The score that JMI has achieved is based on the evaluation on parameters signed between the varsity and the HRD Ministry (now Ministry of Education) and the University Grants Commission.
The rank is based on parameters such as the annual intake of students in undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD and MPhil courses. Several other aspects such as teaching faculty, the student-teacher ratio in classrooms, foreign students’ intake, infrastructure and other factors were also included in the criteria for ranking the central universities in India.
With the announcement, Twitter and other social media platforms were flooded with posts by students and alumni who all congratulated the varsity for the achievement.
