Jamia students detained during night protest, AISA alleges illegal detention

More than 20 students from Jamia Millia Islamia are reportedly missing after being detained by Delhi Police from the campus around 5:00 AM on February 13, 2025.

According to a press release by the All India Students’ Association (AISA), the students were last seen being taken away in police vans, and their current whereabouts remain unknown.

The detained students were participating in a peaceful protest demanding the revocation of disciplinary notices issued by the university.

“Witnesses allege that the detentions occurred under the cover of darkness, with the involvement of unidentified officers from the Delhi Police, allegedly supported by the Jamia administration,” the press release read.

AISA claims that the detentions were carried out “illegally before sunrise, and neither the police officers nor the SHOs of multiple police stations have acknowledged holding the students.”

Among the missing students are Sajahan, Mishkat, Saurabh, Hazrat Parwana, Yagyesh, Habeeb Ppa, Uthara, Agraj, Gaytri, Jyoti, Sahib, and Mulayam, with more names yet to be confirmed. AISA has expressed grave concerns over what it describes as “missing detention” and called for the immediate release of the students.

They have also urged all sections of society to raise their voices against this alleged illegal detention.

The incident has sparked widespread concern, with questions being raised about the legal basis for the detentions and the secrecy surrounding the students’ location.

AISA emphasized that the incident appears to be an attempt to silence dissent on campus and has demanded transparency from the Delhi Police and Jamia administration.
