Jammu cricketer’s family hopeful their son will get a chance to prove his mettle

Abdul Samad, the lone cricketer from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for a base price of 20 lakh during the auction in Kolkata in December last year. His family is hopeful that Samad will be included in the playing 11 to prove his mettle.

Samad’s father, Farooq Ahmad who was also a cricketer is currently working in the sports department told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that since his childhood Samad was interested in Cricket.

“He has averaged over 74 in first class matches and I am hopeful he will continue his good average in IPL too.”

He requested his fans to pray for him so that he will be included in the playing 11 to prove his mettle.

Samad who originally hails from Rajouri presently lives in Sidhra area of Jammu. He is an all-rounder and is the first cricketer from Jammu division and fifth cricketer from J&K who have been brought by different franchises to take part in the T20 league IPL.

Former cricketer and Jammu and Kashmir’s representative for BCCI Ranjeet Kalra and international cricketer Parvaiz Rasool have also said T20 is his format and they are hopeful that he will perform well to make everyone proud if given an opportunity.

Parvaiz Rasool, Rasikh Salam, Mohammad Mudhasir and Manzoor Pandav were picked up by teams earlier. However, Mohammed Mudhasir and Manzoor Pandav didn’t get any match to play.

Pertinently, due to the rising cases of COVID-19, BCC1 decided to hold the entire event in UAE which started on September 19—(KNO)
