Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina on Saturday called on party workers and leaders to unite and ensure the Union Territory gets its first BJP chief minister by winning the next assembly elections independently.

Addressing party delegates at the two-day ‘Vistarit Karyasamiti Baithak’ in Mishriwala, Raina criticized the Congress and the National Conference for allegedly exploiting various sections of the population for vote bank politics.

The meeting was attended by Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Jitendra Singh, National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, and other prominent BJP leaders including former deputy chief ministers Nirmal Singh and Kavinder Gupta. BJP national president and Union Minister J P Nadda is also expected to join the meeting later to discuss the party’s roadmap for the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

“We must pledge to work towards achieving a majority in the next assembly elections. Our goal is to form the next government on our own and have a BJP chief minister,” Raina stated.

The session began with tributes to BJP ideologue Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 123rd birth anniversary. Mookerjee, a founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, opposed Article 370 which provided special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

He died under mysterious circumstances in 1953 following his arrest in the region.

Raina noted the efforts of BJP workers in securing wins in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and called for renewed dedication to outperform the Congress and National Conference.

He highlighted the Modi government’s role in delivering justice to deprived sections of society, including West Pakistani and PoJK refugees, Gujjars, Bakerwals, and Paharis, and its contribution to grassroots democracy.

Union Minister Reddy, BJP’s election in charge for Jammu and Kashmir, said the meeting is part of a nationwide program to prepare a roadmap for the next few months following the NDA-led government’s formation at the center for a third term.

He emphasized the party’s strengthened support base in Jammu and Kashmir post the abrogation of Article 370 and the focus on highlighting BJP’s achievements in the region over the past decade.
