Journalists Salman Shah and Suhail Dar Detained in Anantnag for Questioning

 

Salman Shah, the editor of The Kashmiriyat’s newspaper Kashmir First has been detained in Anantnag, South Kashmir on Tuesday night.

Imran Shah, his brother spoke to The Kashmiriyat and said that Salman has been held at a police station in Anantnag, where the Police has said that the journalist has been detained for questioning.

“We do not know what sort of a questioning is this that takes the officials three night to initiate questioning,” he said, adding, “Salman has said that he has been told nothing as of yet.”

The Police officials have said that Salman is being questioned.

Meanwhile Suhail Dar, another Journalist has been detained for the second time after the Article 370 abrogation. He was arrested in March last year after he ran a video on his Facebook page. He was subsequently booked under the charges of Fake News and held in Srinagar for 35 days.

Suhail, 25, hails from Batengoo and freelances with various news organizations including The Kashmiriyat. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, his family said, “Suhail was called last week and asked to report to the local Police station, after that he was held at the Police station.”

Suhail’s family said that they have running from one office to the other to see their son out of the jail, however, nothing has been assured by anyone as of yet.

The family has appealed the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha and the Inspector General of Police to intervene and get their son out of the jail.
