Karnah residents express resentment over delimitation proposal

The Civil society of the Karnah area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district has expressed strong resentment to the delimitation proposal

In a statement, the Civil society Karnah Dr.Aijaz Lone General secretary of the organization said that the people of karnah strongly oppose the proposal of the delimitation commission, which has added some part of Karalpora tehsil to Karnah constituency.

The chairman calling the move of inclusion of Kralpora in the Karnah assembly segment as unjust said that it was “injustice” to the people of karnah. “We have a unique topography. Karnah valley is an administrative tehsil of frontier district Kupwara located 78Kms away from the district Headquarters Kupwara, compromising of 32 panchayat halqas with a population of more than 80 thousand.”

He said that the geographic conditions, cultural and other parameters are different from the part which has been added to the constituency. During the winter period due to the continuous closure of Sadhna pass, the sufferings of people and miseries increase manifold. “This is obviously astonishing that in the proposal such areas are being added to our constituency which is not affordable to us.”

He said that the people of the valley are already confronted with the horrifying and miserable plight and now this delimitation proposal is a pot shot for us and is a tactic to confiscate our political representation.
