The weather in Jammu Kashmir is expected to exhibit varying patterns over the first week of January, as per the latest forecast by Kashmir Weather.
As per Kashmir Weather, on January 1, the region will likely experience mostly dry conditions, with only higher reaches of Kupwara, Bandipora, Baramulla, and Ganderbal districts seeing a possibility of snowfall.
The weather is expected to change significantly from midnight on January 2 as a Western Disturbance becomes active.
This system is likely to bring snowfall to higher altitudes and some plains of Kashmir, with North Kashmir predicted to face the most impact, while central and south Kashmir may witness relatively milder effects.
“The period between January 3 and 4 is forecast to remain mostly dry, although brief spells of snowfall may occur in some higher altitudes,” Kashmir Weather reported.
By the evening or night of January 4, the Western Disturbance may intensify, potentially altering the weather pattern. January 5 and 6 remain uncertain, with the possibility of rain or snow, the advisory read.
Higher temperatures during this period could lead to rainfall in the plains, particularly if precipitation occurs during the day. This variability makes it challenging to predict the intensity of snowfall in the plains.
On January 7, certain parts of the region may see extended spells of rain or snow, but most areas are likely to remain dry.
From January 8 to 10, the weather is expected to stabilize, bringing dry conditions across Jammu and Kashmir.
Forecasters have emphasized that updates will follow as the situation develops, especially regarding the evolving Western Disturbance.
_Residents in areas prone to snow are urged to stay alert and prepared for potential changes in the forecast,” the advisory read.
