Kashmir parts to experience light rain, snow on October 16-17: MeT

The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has forecasted light rain and snow in some higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley on October 16 and 17.

According to the MeT office, the weather will remain predominantly dry in the region over the next 24 hours.

They noted the possibility of a brief spell of very light rain and light snow in higher areas of Kupwara and Bandipora in north Kashmir, as well as in Ganderbal in central Kashmir, late on the night of October 16 into the early morning of October 17.

From October 18 to 19, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy and generally dry until October 22, with no significant weather events anticipated during this period.

Farmers in the Kashmir Valley have been advised to continue their harvesting and agricultural activities.

In terms of temperatures, all weather stations in the valley recorded night temperatures 1 to 2 degrees Celsius above normal, except for the tourist destination of Pahalgam, which reported a minimum of 2.7 degrees Celsius—consistent with seasonal averages.

Daytime temperatures on Sunday were also noted to be 3 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal, as reported by the MeT office.
