Kashmir: Public parks to reopen after nearly two-month shutdown; Full list here

The Jammu Kashmir administration on Saturday, June 14, announced the reopening of several major public parks and tourist destinations that had been shut for nearly two months.

The closure was imposed in late April 2025 after Pahalgam attack, which left at least 27 people dead and many more injured.

The reopening was officially confirmed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who said the security situation had improved significantly. “We are committed to ensuring safety while facilitating normalcy in the region,” he stated.

As per details received by The Kashmiriyat, eight parks have been reopened to the public in the first phase, with more expected to reopen in the coming weeks.

“In Anantnag, Betab valley, Kokernag, Achabal, Verinag gardens will be thrown open along with the parks around Pahalgam town,” sources informed The Kashmiriyat.

They said that in Srinagar Badamwari, Duck park and park near Hazratbal Dargah are also among the list of the parks that will be reopened in phase one.

In the days following the attack, authorities closed 48 public parks and gardens across the Kashmir Valley, citing security concerns.

These included popular sites in Srinagar, Anantnag, and Baramulla, impacting both locals and tourists during the early summer season. The decision drew criticism from sections of the tourism industry, which suffered losses during the peak travel period.
