Business establishments in the region are shut while as vehicular movement has been affected to a great level, in view of the shutdown call issued by the Hurriyat confrence led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

The Indian Government earlier this week issued an order giving the non-Kashmiris access to buy lands across Jammu Kashmir, a move which has evoked massive criticism.

Kashmir and Jammu based groups have condemned the move and called it a ‘Unilateral decision’ as there is no functional legislature in Jammu Kashmir.

The Indian Government in August last year abrogated the special status of Jammu Kashmir, after which thousands of people were put under detention which included the three former chief Ministers of the erstwhile state of Jammu Kashmir.

The  Hurriyat had called the act as ‘a policy of permanent demographic change is aggressively being pushed – to snatch our land , destroy our identity and turn us into a minority in our own land.’
