Kashmiri Journalist to Sue Dharma Productions For ‘Endangering Life’

Watching a movie a number of times and reviewing it is one of his hobbies. A month back, while watching Shershah – a Dharma Production, for a review, he was shocked to find my vehicle’s license number on a car being driven by “terrorists,” as depicted in the movie, Faraz tells us.

A 22-year-old Journalism student, Faraz Ashraf, from North Kashmir’s Baramulla expressed concerns over the irresponsible behavior of the production house.

He said that the production house had not only put his life in danger but also posed security risks to his family. “I used to travel in my personal vehicle, across India but now I am afraid and fearful for my life,” he said, while talking to The Kashmiriyat.

“I tried to contact the production house a number of times but there was no response from their end. All of my efforts went in vain and hence, I’ve decided to take the matter to the Court of Law,” he added.

Faraz told The Kashmiriyat that he had to face harassment from social media users after he expressed his concern on his Twitter handle.

“After failing to contact Dharma Productions, I took to micro blogging site Twitter where I shared this incident and it got media coverage. But the hate mongers have been abusing me online since. All of my social media handles are flooded with comments, spewing venom against me,” said Faraz.

He says that a scene from the movie shows militants coming out of the vehicle having the same license number as that of his vehicle’s, and firing indiscriminately at the Army men.

Shershah is a nationalistic film dedicated to Captain Vikram Batra of the Indian Army who died during the Kargil War. Shershah isn’t the only movie which has collectively depicted Kashmiris as “terrorists.”
