Kashmiri students allegedly assaulted at Chandigarh college

A tense situation unfolded at the CT Institute of Engineering located in Shahpur in Chandigarh after students staged protests against the assault of Kashmiri students at the campus.

Kashmiri students, as per reports, received by The Kashmiriyat, said that a female student from that the situation escalated after a female student from the valley was heckled and harassed by some non local students at the institute.

The Kashmiri student was subjected to taunts and harassment by a non local student, leading to a complaint to the college committee, which reportedly took no action.

Subsequently, the alleged perpetrator repeated the misconduct, triggering outrage among Kashmiri students and escalating tensions on campus.

The Kashmiri students alleged that the non-locals beat some students ruthlessly, while the non-local students alleged that Kashmiri students had assaulted students.

Videos depicting the altercation from the incident underscore the severity of the situation.

Despite efforts by institute security and management, the conflict spiraled out of control, after which police took action.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Bharat Masih arrived on the scene with reinforcements, managing to defuse the situation after assessing the circumstances.

Police have collected CCTV footage of the incident for investigation purposes, but as of now, no formal charges have been filed.

The incident has sparked widespread discontent among students, particularly female attendees, who feel aggrieved by the institute’s handling of the situation.

On Friday, disgruntled students staged protests on campus, demanding accountability from both the institute administration and law enforcement agencies.
