Kashmiri Students Assaulted by Goons while being Produced in Agra Court

Three Kashmiri students booked under sedition charges in the Agra area of BJP-led Uttar Pradesh were thrashed by goons as they were being taken to the court on Thursday.

The Uttar Pradesh Government claimed that the three shouted Pro-Pakistan slogans after a BJP member filed a complaint against the Kashmiri trio immediately after India lost the match to Pakistan in their first encounter in the ongoing t20 world cup.

The three were identified as Arsheed Yusuf (21) son of Mohammad Yousuf Paul, a resident of Checkpora Chadoora in Budgam, Inayat Altaf Sheikh Son of Mohammad Altaf, a resident of Dooniwari in Budgam, and Showkat Ahmed of Shahgund in Bandipora district- they are all engineering students.

As the Police produced them in the court on Thursday, goons attacked them in the presence of Police and assaulted them shouting slogans against them. Some even hurled abuses at them

The arrests have evoked angry reactions in Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti, the former chief minister of Jammu Kashmir called for the release of Kashmiri students arrested in Agra over their celebration of Pakistan’s victory over India in the ongoing T-20 world cup.

The PDP president called the act as reprehensible. Taking to her Twitter handle she said, “Crackdown on Kashmiri students both within J&K & outside is reprehensible. The situation in J&K after two years of suppression should’ve been an eye-opener for GOI & led to course correction.BJPs pseudo patriotism disregards the idea of India. Release these students immediately.”

This is not the first time Kashmiris have been attacked in Indian states. There have been hundreds of incidents of hate when Kashmiris have been attacked, assaulted in various parts of India.
